Bottled Water | In response to Nestlé’s ‘concern’ in regards to obesity.

In response to Nestlé’s ‘concern’ in regards to obesity.

On the City of London agenda dated August 18th there is a submission from the Council of Canadians London Chapter. A section of it reads as follows:

Finally, on Monday August 11th, 2008, both Refreshments Canada & Nestle both concurred and stated that if the City of London is sincerely considering a strategy to eliminate single use water bottles, due to the current obesity epidemic, the City of London must also consider banning the sales of soft drinks & other beverages with zero nutritional value that do contribute to the current obesity crisis and illness.

We, Council of Canadians, could not agree more.  We support any such future resolution to eliminate all soft drinks as put forward by both Nestle and Refreshments Canada.  We are pleased Nestle and Refreshments Canada have acknowledged this crisis and put forward their support of such a ban.  In fact, cities in North America have just begun introducing moratoriums on new fast food developments to address this enormous health issue threatening the lives of Canadians. (end)

Sounds like a sensible plan of action that would benefit society greatly.

Imagine how much healthier children and citizens alike would be if we simply embraced our municipal water! If Nestle & refreshments Canada are so concerned about obesity, perhaps they can help curb this epidemic by ceasing the deliberate and clever multi million dollar advertising campaigns directly targeting our children.

The irony is hard to swallow. Nestle and other transnational corporations pump our children full of transfats, sugar, chemicals, colour, and preservatives, they are the greatest contributor to the obesity epidemic – then they use it as their argument. The word psychopath comes to mind.
